A few months have passed since we've first seen the facelifted Cupra Formentor doing its thing at the Nurburgring, and the sporty crossover is now back in new spy shots that are a bit more revealing. Update July 17: We've added new spy shots of the facelifted Cupra Formentor to the image gallery.
For one, the camouflage up front is a bit thinner, revealing more of the new headlamp design. The bumper is new and features bigger side vents and different central air intake. Cupra went for a completely different grille design that ties the 2024 Formentor to the Tavascan. Expect the front fenders and hood to carry over, though they were probably adapted to fit the changes mentioned above.

The door handles, roof rails, and side skirts soldier on, and its future owners can probably look forward to new wheel designs. Don't mind the sensors on the alloys equipping the test car, as they're there for data gathering. A pair of new taillights will be found at the rear, likely still joined together by a thin light strip. The tailgate should still host the corporate logo and Cupra lettering, and the bumper and diffuser will be new.

Inside, the Formentor, which was the first standalone product launched by Cupra after partially cutting the umbilical cord with SEAT five years ago, will perhaps get a new infotainment system and digital instrument cluster. Don't look for anything radical, as this is still a mid-cycle refresh. In a worst-case scenario, they might at least revise the software of the two screens. A new steering wheel could replace the current one, and the center console could be updated. Chances are SEAT's sporty and electrified brand might pay extra care to the driver assistance systems.

Cupra's current Formentor comes with different powertrains fed by gasoline. The most humble offering uses a 1.5-liter unit, and the punchiest uses Audi Sport's 2.5-liter five-banger. The VZ5 boasts 385 hp (390 ps/287 kW) and has 354 lb-ft (480 Nm). It is three-tenths quicker to 62 mph (100 kph) than the Audi RS Q3 and RS Q3 Sportback, taking 4.2 seconds to complete the sprint, and maxes out at 155 mph (250 kph). Those who'd rather have a low-revving mill can pick the popular 2.0-liter TDI diesel, and a plug-in hybrid is also included. Will the powertrain family be updated? We think so, likely with an emphasis on reducing carbon dioxide emissions and improving fuel consumption, though it might not apply to all units.

Since the camouflage was significantly reduced since April, when we first saw the facelifted Cupra Formentor doing its thing at the racetrack, we think it might be due towards the end of the year. An early 2024 introduction is also possible, and deliveries of the compact crossover that uses the VW Group's MQB Evo underpinnings should commence shortly after its premiere.
