The Ford Mustang remains one of the most sought-after models out there, not just in tip-top shape (though this is the dream of every collector out there) but also in project car condition. That's because the latter allows for a custom restoration process that everyone can adjust according to their liking.
The one you see here is part of the second category, though we must tell you from the very beginning that restoring it will be quite a challenge. And you’ll understand why in a couple of minutes.

First of all, the owner says that what you’re looking at is an early 1965 Ford Mustang fastback originally equipped with the 289-ci (4.7-liter) engine. The car was manufactured in September 1964, so it’s one of the first Mustangs ever made. Ford built the first model in March, and the fastback went on sale in August, so if the information provided by the seller is accurate, this is indeed a rare find.

The car, however, has received plenty of changes, some of them quite unfortunate.

For example, the Mustang was originally painted in burgundy but is now blue for a reason that hasn’t been shared. It was shipped with an automatic transmission, yet a previous owner converted it into a manual car. The engine and the transmission, however, are no longer there, and the odometer now shows 0 miles. The owner says the actual mileage is 49,211 miles (79,197 km).

Then, as you can see in the photos, the passenger door comes from a coupe, so it’ll need fastback glass. There’s obviously some rust on the car, and the quarter panels need to be replaced completely. Of course, the trunk is also invaded by rust, and major fixes would be required here too.

And yet, this is without a doubt a Mustang that deserves a second chance as such a model could end up being worth quite a small fortune. The frame is very solid, the seller says, and as a bonus, you also receive a bunch of extra parts to help you with the restoration, including the front grille and a spare back seat.

At the end of the day, this Mustang remains a looker, and quite a lot of people are now fighting for it on eBay. The car has already received over 40 bids. At the time of writing, the price is set to $6,700, with the auction scheduled to come to an end in less than 2 days.
