One of the key elements that are taken into account by a customer in the market for a new car is the way the vehicle looks. A subjective element, at best, but one that for better or worse is essential in making one car model more recognizable than another. But what if someone was to mix up the front and rears of different cars and come up with an average to suit all tastes?
There are now on the market a great variety of body styles for cars, ranging from the century-old sedan to the more recent SUV. Each car segment has its own best performers and its underachievers. But how would a mashup between them all look like?
Australia-based insurance company Budget Direct, a group that from time to time comes up with interesting what-ifs like cross-brand mashups or production models turned hypercars, tried to find the average look for cars in seven segments – pickup, ute, hatchback, sedan, SUV, convertible and crossover.
And they did so by taking photos of cars that are leading sales charts in their respective segments and combining them to give us what you see in the gallery above.
For the American market a great proposition would for instance be a pickup that blends an Isuzu D-Max or Mercedes X-Class with best sellers GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado.
The mixed proposition for sedan lovers is a hybrid between the Subaru Legacy and Toyota Camry, while convertible fans are treated by a mesh made of a number of Corvette, Porsche and Mercedes cars.
The results you see in the gallery above have been created by Budget Direct after looking at a narrowed down list of “25 of the most typical cars of the type based on sales and general popularity.”
Photos of these cars were then taken and superimposed one over the other.
