Launched in 1966 for the 1967 model year, the greatest nemesis of the Ford Mustang came with a puny inline-six engine as standard. But by the end of the first generation’s production life, the COPO ZL1 topped 430 horsepower from 7.0 liters.
The Camaro we’ll talk about today can do better, though. Chevrolet Performance is responsible for the ZZ502 leviathan hiding under the hood, joined by a polished intake and aluminum heads. The 8.2-liter crate engine is fed by an air cleaner shrouding an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, which is why this pro-touring restomod is cranking out 508 horsepower and 580 pound-feet (786 Nm) of torque.

All of that suck-squeeze-bang-blow is channeled by a four-speed automatic to 3.89 gears for the 9.0-inch rear axle and 19-inch Intro Aurora rear wheels. As you can clearly tell from the photos and video, this car is also a corner carver thanks to the TCI chassis, IFS front suspension, Torque Arm rear suspension, disc brakes from Wilwood on all corners, and rack-and-pinion steering system with power assistance.

From a design standpoint, this one-of-a-kind build stands out in the crowd with the custom radiator cover and a shaved header leading the Stinger-style hood. Dual-mode headlights flank polished bars for the ’68 grille, Checkered Red paintwork contrasts nicely with the brightwork, and the marker lights have been duly shaved.

“When it comes to old-school cool, it doesn't get much better than a well-done Camaro” according to RK Motors Charlotte. The selling vendor is charging $129,900 for this go-faster cruiser with a 2800 stall, and the emphasis falls on “cruiser” considering how much attention went into the interior’s makeover. From the one-off dashboard to the Fiero and Camaro seats leathered by Muterts Auto Detailing, this fellow should definitely serve you well on the long haul.

Designed to grab attention in addition to kicking asphalt, this Camaro should be an enticing proposition for any collector. And at the advertised price, it also happens to be far more affordable than the COPO ZL-1. For reference, one of those ultra-collectible cars grabbed north of $1 million at a Barrett-Jackson auction earlier this year.
