The Chevrolet Chevelle has always been a sneaky-good car, able to perform admirably across several segments, in multiple body styles. Of course, not all Chevelles were created equal, which is why late first-gen models and second-gen cars are the ones that stand out most.
Come 1966, the Chevelle had already been redesigned to feature a smoother appearance, a new grille, plus several more cosmetic changes. The idea was to go with a “Coke bottle” design, which was becoming increasingly popular in the mid-to-late 1960s.

Additional changes followed in 1967, when larger wraparound taillights were added to the rear fascia, to go with the standard backup lights, standard front disc brakes across the board, plus a collapsible steering column. At that point, the Chevelle was doing great, and there was a tremendous amount of variety within the range.

In later years, the Chevelle would welcome a 454 ci (7.4L) Big-Block V8 engine, good for 450 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. Those things were beastly, and they’re still in high demand today at auction. But as is often the case in life, there’s always someone bigger waiting around the corner, and the Chevelle is no stranger to having its engine swapped for something with even more balls than a 454 V8.

Case in point, this custom 1967 Chevelle SS sport coupe, modified by Pat Musi himself – the owner of Pat Musi Racing. The vehicle is up for grabs to the highest bidder, and it’ll definitely fetch a pretty penny before time runs out.

Powering this Chevelle is an Edelbrock/Musi big-block V8 crate engine, fitted with a Pro-Flo 4 EFI system (fuel injected), to go with its Billet Specialties Tru Trac serpentine system, and a BeCool aluminum radiator with dual electric puller fans. According to the ad, this engine sends over 700 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels via a Tremec five-speed manual gearbox.

In terms of visuals, highlights include the cowl-induction hood, Super Sport and ‘555’ badging, a black tail panel, chrome accents, plus the chrome-finished 18-inch American Racing Torq Thrust wheels with Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires. The car is also equipped with tubular A-arms, adjustable shocks, and Wilwood disc brakes.

As for the interior, it’s actually pretty cool once you take it all in. Both the front bucket seats and the rear bench were upholstered in black leather with red stitching and diamond-pattern inserts, while a Retrosound Bluetooth stereo works alongside the aftermarket speakers. This Chevelle also has air conditioning, Dakota Digital instrumentation, and a floor-mounted Hurst shifter.

Last, but not least, there’s a replacement fuel tank, plus a dual exhaust system where the custom headers work in conjunction with the X-pipe and Magnaflow mufflers.

This is without a doubt a serious piece of kit, and its next owner will surely enjoy driving the heck out of it.
