Economical, sustainable, and easy to maneuver and move around, tiny houses have gained tremendous popularity all over the world in recent years. In New Zealand, a country that currently has the most unaffordable housing in the world, tiny houses have become a viral trend and a fixture on the housing market.
The number of compact houses and the demand for the same are increasing by the day, with more and more people willing to adopt a minimalist way of living in order to fulfill their home ownership dreams. Regardless of their shape or size, tiny houses are the most relevant proof that creative design and careful planning can help turn even the most compact living spaces into functional abodes that also look good.

Some of the appeals of tiny homes include the fact that they can be designed according to your tastes and will allow you increased freedom of movement while also providing the same comfort you can find in normal houses. They make great compact dwellings for those who want to downsize and live more sustainably, but they aren't limited to being used as a home. For those who aren't quite sure if they could live in one full-time, services such as Airbnb offer tiny houses as a vacation or short-term rental so you can sample this lifestyle before making the decision to move into one.

The Tuki Tuki tiny house, located in a rural farm area in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand, offers guests the opportunity to discover what it would be like to live small but in style in a tiny eco house away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Tuki Tuki is a small wooden house that was custom designed by the owners and built with natural materials by a locally owned builder called Le Workshop. The brand-new home was crafted specifically to be used as an eco-friendly, self-contained Airbnb rental to offer guests a relaxing off-grid experience.

Tucked away in a remote and picturesque countryside area, this delightful tiny home boasts an effortless design with a country-style exterior that exudes rustic charm and a warm interior that invites relaxation. It provides a tranquil haven to anyone looking to replenish their batteries and would also be a great choice for honeymoons and couple getaways.

The exterior is clad in Japanese cedar siding, which allows it to blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings. The double-glazed windows and quality insulation make the house both warm in winter and cool in summer. In front of the house, the owners have also built a spacious wooden deck for outdoor living. It comes complete with a cast iron bath and a table and chairs set. The bifold sliding doors allow for a seamless indoor/ outdoor flow, creating the perfect setting to take in the fabulous views of Mount Erin and the surrounding nature.

The interior of the Tuki Tuki tiny home is as charming as the exterior. The design incorporates plenty of natural wood elements, including local oak and bamboo, that help create a cozy and intimate atmosphere. Simplicity and functionality are the best words to describe the interior. The living room, dining room, and kitchen are all open plan to promote spaciousness while also ensuring thoughtful functionality for everyday needs. The house also has a loft that serves as an intimate sleeping space. Overall, the simplicity of the floor plan allows for a compact yet functional space.

The living area includes a comfortable sofa, a coffee table, a storage unit with open shelves, and some chairs. The space is adorned with beautiful and inviting decor, and the warm color palette enhances relaxation. The sofa is strategically placed to face the sliding doors so that guests can enjoy the vistas even when they are inside.

The kitchen is compact but well-equipped with all the essentials to cook delicious meals, including a four-burner gas stove, a sink, and a refrigerator. The rustic vibe continues in this area with plenty of natural wood cabinetry. A small breakfast bar with seating for two is placed in a corner overlooking a small window. It's also worth mentioning that the water supply to the house is fresh and is filtered through a special system to make it safe to drink.

The bathroom is quite modern and includes a full-size shower, a sink, a composting toilet, and floor-to-ceiling mirrors. There is also storage space for the guests' clothes and belongings.

A narrow flight of stairs leads to the lofted bedroom, which fits a double bed and offers a cozy retreat for couples. A small window allows natural light to fill in the space.

The Tuki Tuki tiny home is the kind of retreat that takes all your worries and distractions away and teaches you how to appreciate the small things in life. It's also a great opportunity to sample small living in New Zealand to see if the minimalist lifestyle suits you. This charming little house could also serve as inspiration for anyone considering downsizing and building their own custom tiny house on wheels.
