Unveiled in 2015, the Tipo 952 is the first Alfa Romeo to feature the Giorgio rear- and all-wheel-drive platform. Developed with the help of Ferrari, the compact executive sedan was once expected to spawn two additional body styles.
The Giulia GTA and Giulia GTAm, however, aren’t the coupes the Alfisti were expecting them to be. As for the family-oriented enthusiast, Alfa Romeo still hasn’t – and won’t ever – offer a station wagon or an all-road derivative.
Numerous renderings came before it, but the pixel work of Sugar Chow is a kind reminder of what Alfa Romeo could’ve done if the Italian automaker had a better financial situation and if the market would favor longroofs over crossovers, SUVs, and pickup trucks. As you can tell, the design is spot on!
In keeping with the front overhang, the rear overhang is also shorter than what you may find on other wagons. That’s because the Giulia is a driver’s car first of all, and to hell with everything else in the most Italian way possible. Quadrifoglio motifs are also present, namely the four exhaust outlets at the rear and the vented hood.
This rendering also features a fixed panoramic glass roof and two aluminum roof bars, making it quite an interesting family hauler on the long haul. The problem with the Giulia as a people carrier, however, is rear legroom. Even the BMW 3 Series does better in this department while cargo capacity is pretty much identical at 480 liters.
According to the future product plan published by Alfa Romeo, the mid-cycle refresh of the Giulia as well as the Stelvio are scheduled to roll out in 2021. That’s also the year the C-UV previewed by the Tonale Concept will arrive at dealerships, and come 2022, the B-UV subcompact utility vehicle will be added to the model lineup.
“Wait, but didn’t they promise the revival of the GTV and 8C?” That was the case at the Capital Markets Day 2018, but since then, Alfa Romeo had to drop those two models because the Italian automaker is a little bit short on money.
