I’m all for purchasing all types of Hellcat-derived Dodge Challengers, be they new or used, but at $34,000 over MSRP, this particular muscle car might raise more than a few eyebrows. Then again, it’s got a great spec, and it comes with delivery miles.
Here’s what we know: This Challenger has been up for grabs at auction up until yesterday, and we’ve been tracking its progress. About a week ago, high bids began coming in – someone got the ball rolling with $75,000, then the eventual winner of the auction jumped in with $105,000 right off the bat. They must have really wanted the car, right?
Somebody then offered up $110,000, so the guy who got the car had to go to $125,000. That’s all fine, I guess, but I’m hoping they realized this wasn’t a Redeye variant. It’s just a Widebody Jailbreak Last Call car, which don’t usually go for way over MSRP. A few months ago, we saw a Plum Crazy example that fetched $11,000 over MSRP, but also one that sold for roughly $3,000 under MSRP, despite having delivery miles.
I guess you just never know how somebody’s going to react when they see a certain specification, and to be fair, this is one of the best-looking Hellcats we’ve seen in recent weeks.
What really stands out visually, apart from the F8 Green exterior, are the Satin Black front and rear spoilers, Brass Monkey badges, widebody fenders (naturally), the dual-scoop hood, Vapor Chrome exhaust outlets and the 20-inch Brass Monkey Devil’s Rim forged alloy wheels, rocking Pirelli P Zero All Season tires. Also worth noting are the adaptive Bilstein dampers and the orange-finished Brembo calipers.
Meanwhile, interior highlights include the Sepia Laguna leather seats (heated and ventilated) with embossed Hellcat logos, keyless entry, push-button start, Jailbreak badging, an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, a Harman Kardon sound system, Sepia-color seatbelts, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a Uconnect infotainment system with satnav. The odometer indicates just 12 miles.
As for the engine, it’s Dodge’s trusty supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8, good for 717 horsepower and 656 lb-ft of torque. The power gets sent to the rear wheels via the carmaker’s eight-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission.
Since this is a ‘Last Call’ model, it also comes with a plaque affixed under the hood right by the driver-side headlight.
But is it worth $34,000 over MSRP? That’s tough to say. My instincts are telling me that if you’re planning on driving the wheels off this thing, depreciation will hit hard. If you’re more of a collector, then maybe you can make that money back some day, or even turn a profit.
Ultimately, it had to have been the spec that won over the buyer, and by that I mean the optional equipment, and not necessarily the ‘Last Call’ nature of the vehicle.
