1979 was the year when the Trans Am sales went through the roof. Pontiac shipped over 117,000 units, most of which were fitted with the L80 403 engine.
Firebird sales for the year reached 211,000 units, a massive increase from the previous year, an incredible number achieved just before a substantial drop in 1980.

A 1979 Trans Am recently landed on eBay to look for a new owner, with the car still in great shape with no rust and many original parts.

While I won't comment too much on what the eyes can see because anyone can browse the photos and determine that the Trans Am looks great, it's worth knowing that it still comes with the original exhaust system and windshield. It might have more original goodies, but you should inspect the car in person before committing to a purchase.

The 403 is still in the car, starting and running properly. It's unclear if the engine has ever been rebuilt, but the Trans Am has already received a repaint. It still looks good but shows a subtle patina.

Now, let's talk a bit about its main selling point.

Exclusively owned by women, this Trans Am rolled off the assembly lines with the WS7 performance package. There's a lot of confusion surrounding the WS6 and WS7 packages offered on the Trans Am in the late '70s.

Pontiac introduced the WS6 Performance Package in 1978 with significant suspension upgrades, and thanks to strong demand, it decided to retain the offering for the next model year with one big change: the addition of rear disc brakes.

However, as it happened in 1978, the demand for this performance upgrade was amazing, so Pontiac couldn't align the production with the demand. The carmaker didn't have enough disk brakes for the WS6 package, so it launched a WS7 Performance Package that included the same upgrades, minus the rear disc brakes. As a result, the WS6 and WS7 packages are nearly identical, and the only difference is that the latter sports drum brakes on the 1979 model year.

The Trans Am that landed on eBay courtesy of seller enoenix sports the WS7 package with rear drum brakes. Otherwise, everything is there, so it's the real deal despite lacking disc brakes. Some people believe that the lack of rear disc brakes indicates that the WS7 performance package wasn't installed from the factory, but that's incorrect.

The Trans Am is advertised as a survivor and is priced accordingly. The owner hopes to get at least $27,500 for the car, though they also enabled the Make Offer button if someone wants it but has another deal in mind. It's parked in Clayton, North Carolina, and you should theoretically be able to drive it on its wheels.
