Unless you've been living under a rock these past couple of months, you know that the only brand-new muscle car still in production is the S650 generation Ford Mustang. The Blue Oval unveiled it in 2022 and kicked off the deliveries last year, and it's the sole surviving player in the segment.
That's about to change in a few months when Dodge is expected to pull the wraps off the new Charger (name unconfirmed), which is rumored to launch with battery-electric and internal combustion power.

Things become truly sad when bringing General Motors into the muscle car talk, as they pulled the plug on the sixth-generation Camaro about a month ago. The only thing the automotive giant had to say about the nameplate is that we will hear from it again, but so far, there's nothing to indicate they're planning a new generation.

Nevertheless, this would be the logical move, as Chevrolet's ties with it date back to the late '60s, and it would be a pity to drop it altogether in the never-ending chase of expanding its high-riding portfolio. For what it's worth, we think the Camaro will return to the muscle car world, maybe with a powertrain recipe similar to that of the next-gen Charger (ICE and EV).

This would give it an advantage over the latest Ford Mustang, which is currently available with a pair of gasoline mills. Base models come with a 2.3L EcoBoost four-pot, and the GT and Dark Horse feature a 5.0L naturally aspirated V8 in two outputs. The Blue Oval is also prepping the punchy GTD with roughly 800 horsepower on tap, and the brand-new Shelby GT500 is rumored to premiere in 2025, perhaps as a 2026 model.

The demise of the Camaro has fueled numerous rendering artists to imagine a hypothetical successor. Nearly all digital illustrations were based on the sixth generation, and some used different monikers, including the Impala. As for the latest we came across, it imagines it under a defunct brand with a retro-ish face.

Signed by jlord8, this rendering shows a hypothetical 2025 Pontiac Trans Am. The model was based on the sixth-generation Camaro, in the range-topping ZL1 configuration, and features pop-up headlamps, a pointy nose, some updates on the sides, a different rear windscreen, and a large wing on the trunk lid. Its name is displayed on the lower parts of the doors, and the Pontiac emblem sits in front of the hood.

The ZL1 logo can be seen on the grille, signaling the presence of a 6.2L supercharged V8. The mill produces 650 horsepower on the final model year Camaro, allowing it to accelerate to 60 mph (97 kph) in 3.5 seconds.

With a few tweaks here and there, especially up front, we reckon this hypothetical 2025 Pontiac Trans Am would look better. But would you get it over a Camaro ZL1 if it was real?
