Chevrolet's ties with the Camaro date back to a couple of years before man stepped foot on the Moon. The original was made in the late '60s, followed by five more generations, including the latest that is about to drive off into the sunset.
The GM-owned car marque has announced that the current Camaro will be discontinued after the 2024 model year. One would expect such a piece of big information to be accompanied by an insanely powerful swansong, one that could dare to take a swing at the mighty Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170.

Unveiled in the first quarter of 2023, the Demon 170 builds on the legacy of its predecessor and boasts never-before-seen performance for a stock muscle car. According to the spec sheet, 1.66 seconds are required to reach the 60 mph (97 kph) mark in its highest specification, which unlocks 1,025 hp (1,040 ps/765 kW) and 945 lb-ft (1,281 Nm) of torque. It needs 8.91 seconds to deal with the quarter mile and to enjoy that much oomph, you'll have to put E85 in the tank.

However, Chevy's Camaro is going away with the Collector's Edition, which is available in several grades, including the range-topping ZL1. The latter can sort of stand neck and neck with Hellcats and Shelbys based on the S550 generation Ford Mustang, though it certainly lacks in the power department. It has 650 hp (659 ps/485 kW) produced by its supercharged V8 and an equal amount of thrust in pound-feet (881 Nm), takes 3.5 seconds to accelerate to sixty miles an hour, and starts at $73,695.

As for what the future holds when it comes to GM's muscle car, your guess is as good as ours. The North American automotive giant promises the nameplate will return, but it does not want to announce anything else. As a result, there are tons of rumors regarding the possible seventh-gen Camaro, which constantly fuel the rendering world. We've seen numerous unofficial attempts at a hypothetical 2025 Camaro, including some that brought back the Chevelle moniker, and the latest are a bit more restrained.

To the untrained eye, the muscle car depicted in these digital illustrations is the current Camaro, but it features updated front and rear ends and a few other tweaks that make it look great. It is an appealing virtual proposal shared by Real Automotive on YouTube, which used some design traits from past Camaros, as well as others that seem to have been inspired by the C8 Corvette. We think the Camaro deserves a proper send-off and that GM should invest some money in it to make it truly memorable. After all, it could be the last of its kind to feature internal combustion engines, allegedly.
