"This is not the end of the Camaro story," General Motors said when they announced that the sixth-gen muscle car was going away after the 2024 model year. Thus, we suspect it will be a while until its successor starts rolling out.
To launch the seventh-gen Chevy Camaro would be the natural move, but some believe the bowtie brand may have some aces up its sleeve. One scenario speaks about the Camaro being turned into a sub-brand that could include additional vehicles, including a sporty crossover. Others are convinced that the next one will be all-electric.
Whatever Chevrolet has in store, it is obvious that they won't kill the nameplate. That is certainly good news for enthusiasts, as this moniker has been around since after the mid-1960s, and it would be a pity to let it go after such a long and very successful history. After all, the automaker still needs a muscle car in its lineup, considering that Ford has a new Mustang and Dodge is readying the new Charger, presumably by late 2024.
For now, at least, the Camaro can still be found on the company's US website, kicking off from $30,900 before MSRP for the 355 hp 3.6L 1LT. The 2LT and 3LT have respective MSRPs of $32,900 and $36,900. The lineup also includes the LT1, 1SS, and 2SS, with their 455 hp 6.2L V8, offered from $38,800, $42,300, and $47,300, respectively. The ZL1 tops the family with a supercharged V8 making 650 hp, priced from $72,100.
Now, while Chevy still has been coy about the future of this moniker, some have gone the extra mile by assuming the firm's muscle car family could grow to include yet another member: the Chevelle. The last one rolled off the line in 1977 as part of the third generation, being made at various factories stateside and north of the border, too. Multiple small-block V8s made up the engine family, alongside a big-block alternative and a straight-six powering the entry-level.
In addition to the regular coupe, the last Chevrolet Chevelle was also offered as a sedan and station wagon, though in this instance, it is the two-door that received a new digital lease on life. TheAutoReport on YouTube took the time to reshape its pixels and make the car look like a Camaro from the future. We think this design certainly works, albeit with less aggressive shapes and smaller wheels.
Still, Chevy's design team could learn a thing or two from these renderings, as this is one sexy, muscly sports car that needs to happen, especially with a punchy motor under the hood, as highlighted by the SS logo that decorates the grille in these CGIs. But do you dig the styling?
