Polestar was planning to build the 6 in a very limited run of only 500 cars. But the interest that customers have been showing for the past three months made them change their mind, and production will be based on demand. The car is not going into production before 2026.
The Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath confirmed that the company will not restrict the production of the 6 to the 500 units originally planned. If customers want it, it remains in production for as long as necessary.

The open-top model made its public debut on August 18 at The Quail and Pebble Beach in the United States. The 500-example batch sold in the first week after debut, with all 500 build slots being reserved, which convinced the company to change strategy. The 6 will enter production in 2026. That is also when first deliveries will take place.

Design boss Maximilian Missoni claims that the Polestar 6 is a daily driver but with high performance. He also admits that, for the design of the model, he played around with the shape of a coupe, but eventually settled for a convertible with a hard roof top.

The looks of the Polestar 6 are inspired by the O2 concept car that Polestar presented back in March. It was the response from customers that convinced the carmaker to put it into production in the shape of the 6 convertible, built on the same aluminum platform as the 5 grand tourer, developed by Polestar at the Warwickshire base in the United Kingdom, and is underpinned by the 800V charging architecture.

It is powered by a dual-motor powertrain, with each motor mounted on an axle. The two motors generate a total of 872 horsepower (884 PS) and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque. The Polestar 6 can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 97 kph) in 3.2 seconds and hit a top speed of 155 mph (250 kph).

The high demand for the roadster comes as a surprise, but it is obvious that there are still die-hard fans of the niche, as Ingenlath said in an interview for Autocar.

Polestar has recently unveiled the 5 fastback at the inaugural Polestar Day. The model should hit the market in late 2024 or early 2025. The model features the exact same architecture and figures as the 6: 872 horsepower (884 PS) and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque.

The carmaker took its entire lineup to Los Angeles for the event. The model year 2024 Polestar 2, the Polestar 3, 4, 5, the Polestar Precept concept car, on which the 5 is based, as well as the Polestar Electric Roadster and the breathtaking Polestar Synergy concepts were all up on the stage, and all of them were painted in white with contrasting black accent elements.
