The Polestar 5 was in the spotlight, alongside the company’s entire lineup, at the inaugural Polestar Day that took place in Los Angeles, California. The insane Synergy concept car was there as well.
Polestar has unveiled the production variant of the Polestar 5, the model that they have been working on and teasing for more than two years. It is the first time we get to see it without any camouflage. The model should hit the market in late 2024 or early 2025 as a 2025 model year.

Design-wise, the four-door GT follows the minimal style of the entire Polestar range and sports a sleek silhouette. The front fascia integrates the split headlights, similar to what we have seen on the Polestar 4.

The angle from which the photos are taken do not show much, but it is obvious that the Polestar 5 comes with a sloping roofline that descends into the decklid, with no rear window, just like the 4 SUV coupe.

Typical for the brand’s models, an LED strip stretches from one side to the other of the rear end, contrasting with the black-painted bumper.

The interior of the model was disguised, but we do know, from what we have seen in the concept car that previewed the production model, that there should be plenty of sustainable materials on board, as well as a large central touchscreen and digital instrument cluster.

On Polestar Day, the representatives of the company confirmed the development of the extreme fast charging (XFC) battery packs with SotreDot. Such a unit can charge enough for a drive of up to 100 miles (161 kilometers) in just five minutes. But it will take some time before it will be integrated in a powertrain.

There is a big chance that the Polestar 5 will get the new tech, especially because the battery pack, which features silicone anodes, will be tested in a Polestar 5 prototype next year. They are also working on technology that allows charging enough for 100 miles in just 3 minutes, which should be ready by 2028. The move should only take 2 minutes by 2032.

The company is opening a new plant in South Korea, which will start operating in 2025. So, the Polestar 5 might roll off the production line over there as well as at the Polestar plant in China and sold worldwide.

If the battery pack is still uncertain, we do know that the Polestar 5 is built on an 800-volt architecture, around a new, bespoke bonded aluminum chassis. The model is powered by two electric motors. Together, they deliver 872 horsepower (884 PS) and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque.

That is more than what the most potent Porsche Taycan can offer right now. The Taycan Turbo S comes with 750 horsepower (761 PS) and 774 lb-ft (1,050 Nm) of torque. But the Polestar 5 is way under what the Tesla Model S Plaid can do. The American EV benefits from the presence of 1,020 horsepower and 1,050 lb-ft (1,420 Nm) of torque.

The Geely-owned company took the entire lineup to Los Angeles. The model year 2024 Polestar 2, the Polestar 3, 4, 5, plus the Polestar Precept concept car, on which the 5 is based, the Polestar Electric Roadster and the insane-looking Polestar Synergy concepts were all up on the stage, all painted in white.
