Polestar is developing a smartphone to offer alongside the Polestar 4. The smartphone will be available with the upcoming Polestar 4, and, for the moment, it will only sell in China.
The Swedish carmaker is partnering up with Geely-owned Xingji Meizu for the development of the gadget. When customers order the Polestar 4, they will also be able to order the smartphone, which will be specifically designed to integrate with their car.

The Polestar 4 and the smartphone will both run on Meizu's FlyMe operating system in China, unlike in Europe and the US, where Google OS is integrated within the car. Google's operating system is not available in China.

The move is one more step in the carmaker's plan of showing that technology is at the center of mobility, especially in a market where car customers are also gadget enthusiasts.

Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath says that the upcoming smartphone will be a premium device to align with the premium character of the brand’s models.

By the time Polestar rolls out the Chinese version of the 4 crossover together with the smartphone, Nio will already be selling a similar duo. The Chinese brand will offer a smartphone to integrate with their cars starting this month.

Built on the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) developed by Geely Holding, the 4 crossover coupe was unveiled last month at the 2023 Shanghai Motor Show as a D-segmentmodel. The car comes with a target range of 350 miles (563 kilometers) according to the European WLTP testing cycle, with the energy being stored in a 102.0-kWh battery pack.

The single motor version sports 268 horsepower (271 PS) and 253 lb-ft (343 Nm) of torque. The range-topping version will feature a dual-motor setup for a total of 536 horsepower (544 PS) and 506 lb-ft (686 Nm) of torque. Those are enough for the model to run from 0 to 62 mph (0-100 kph) in 3.8 seconds.

The Polestar 4 should hit the Chinese market as the third model of the company to be delivered there, before the end of the year. China is the world’s biggest market for electric cars.

The Swedish band’s representatives claim that the 4 is going to be positioned on the market above its main contender, the Tesla Model Y. CEO Thomas Ingenlath describes it as "more premium, more luxurious than the Model Y." The Swedish sell the Polestar 4 in China with a price tag of 349,800 yuan, which is around $47,760. Meanwhile, the Model Y starts at 299,900 yuan ($40,958).

Ingenlath reveals that most of the Polestar customers come from brands such as Mercedes-Benz and BMW.

Polestar should start deliveries for the 4 sometime in December. The company will also launch the 3 in China right after that.
