Volvo rolls out the XC60 Black Edition, and the name says it all. The car sports unique styling, a black-painted body, and high-gloss black accents. The order books have just opened in the United Kingdom.
The mid-size SUV gets the dark theme that makes it look beastly. The model is finished in Only Black, while high-gloss black covers the radiator grille, the Volvo badge that supports it, the rear Volvo lettering and logo, plus the engine name. Volvo equipped the car with matching high-gloss black 21-inch alloy wheels as standard.

The dark theme continues inside. For the cabin, customers can choose either the charcoal Nappa leather in combination with textile upholstery or the charcoal Nappa leather perforated and ventilated upholstery. No matter which one the future owner goes for, the headlining is in charcoal.

If customers choose the comfort seats, they are also getting a backrest massage function and electrically adjustable side support.

The Volvo XC60 Black Edition can be ordered in combination with the two highest trim levels, the Plus and Ultimate. The Plus trim brings a heated steering wheel, adjustable ambient lighting, and an air-purification system with fin particle filtering. The front and rear parking sensors, together with the surround-view camera, operate together for simple maneuvring in tight spaces.

Meanwhile, those who go for the Ultimate trim will get the electronic air suspension with adaptive dampers, as well as a head-up display, active bending headlights with adaptive shadow tech, a powered passenger seat and the 1,100W Bowers & Wilkinson sound system.

Three engine options are available with the Black Edition. It is the B5 mil-hybrid petrol with 247 horsepower (250 PS), in the company of two plug-in hybrids: the T6 with 302 horsepower (306 PS) and T8 with 449 horsepower (455 PS).

All of them are all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. An 18.8-kWh battery provides them with an electric range of up to 47 miles (76 kilometers), according to the WLTP testing cycle.

Prices start at 54,035 pounds, which is the equivalent of $66,042. But for those who want it and want it fast, it comes with a special introductory price of 52,285 pounds ($63,903), available until November 27. In fact, the Plus variants get a 1,750-pound ($2,139) discount, while Volvo offers a 1,000-pound ($1,222) discount for the Ultimates.

At the top of the XC60 Black Edition range sits the T8 Ultimate, which kicks off at 68,385 pounds ($83,590).

The Volvo XC60 Black Edition is already on sale. First deliveries are expected to start in early 2024. The XC60 is Volvo’s bestseller, with 195,338 examples sold last year. The XC40 crossover comes in second with 169,206 units, while the XC90 flagship SUV is third with 97,130 cars sold. With Volvo progressively switching to an all-electric lineup, a shift in customers’ preferences is expected.
