Meet the Funk: a colorful, eye-catching home on wheels that's not just for bohemians and artists. This cleverly designed, quirky home with a surprising focus on functionality and storage has, in fact, the qualities of an ideal family house and is equipped for long-term accommodation.
With a name like Utopian Villas, you can expect this tiny house builder to come up with out-of-the-box ideas when it comes to downsizing. A Utopian Villas tiny house is definitely not the kind you could easily forget, starting with the unusual, quirky shapes and continuing with the unexpected amenities inside. These unusual homes look artistic, but they're adjusted and equipped to provide a high comfort level that also includes massive storage.

You wouldn't think that a tiny house named "The Funk" could reveal a spacious, fully-equipped kitchen or an impressive array of storage solutions. Still, this colorful dwelling is every bit as practical as a boring-looking, classic version without any creative spark in terms of style. The Funk is both functional and stylish and isn't afraid to show off its bold personality. If you feel like you've seen too many minimalist, ultra-clean, all-white tiny homes, The Funk will seem like a breath of fresh air.

From the outside, you'll notice the atypical roof that creates a sense of modern asymmetry. On the inside, the result is exceptional luminosity that visually enlarges the entire living space. Thanks to its unusual design, The Funk boasts high vaulted ceilings and lots of windows placed well above the eye level. Sometimes called clerestory windows, these types of windows take advantage of a home's height to add natural light and visually open up the interior space.

With its high ceilings and clerestory windows, the Funk seems even more spacious than its 254 square feet (23.5 square meters). You'll find that the compact lounge area suddenly seems bigger and brighter; plus, the ample glazing almost creates the illusion of a glass wall that brings the outdoors in. The accentuated height also gives this home an unexpected glamorous, sophisticated touch in contrast to its relaxed, bohemian vibe.

These windows create an unusual effect in the loft bedroom as well. Lofts typically feature a long, horizontal window on each side; in this case, they were replaced by two sets of smaller windows. Having abundant natural light is essential for a small loft like this, which could otherwise feel cramped. There's enough room for a double bed with walk-around space, and the clever windows keep it filled with light and properly ventilated.

The Funk doesn't feature typical access solutions either; there's no traditional staircase leading up to the bedroom, but a fixed ladder that is a bit safer and more comfortable than a basic one. There's also no protection wall because that would ruin the effect of the multiple windows. The bathroom sits under the loft and is elegantly hidden behind a rustic-style sliding door.

As you'll discover, the Funk's unusual design was especially positive for the kitchen. Big windows are great for adding sunshine but can sometimes get in the way of functionality by taking up storage space. The Funk eliminates this issue by placing multiple tiny windows high above eye level, leaving the walls completely free for adding cupboards.

As a result, this kitchen is packed with cupboards, cabinets, and drawers of all kinds, which amount to an impressive storage capacity. This could be a chef's dream kitchen, packed not only with properly-organized storage but also with generous cooking surfaces (countertops on both sides) and full-size appliances. One end of the countertop doubles as a dining area conveniently close to the lounge so that it could easily double as a party snack bar during get-togethers. The Funk may be quirky, but it boasts a family kitchen that even bigger, fancier homes on wheels would envy.

When it comes to storage, the Funk managed to integrate unexpected solutions all over. There's a full-size bookcase/closet sitting comfortably in the lounge area near the entrance; this kind of furniture piece would have been impossible to add without the high vaulted ceilings, and it's something you rarely find in tiny homes. Even the bathroom comes with an unusual vanity designed to optimize storage, as well as several shelves. Just like the kitchen, the bathroom is also fully equipped for long-term accommodation.

Utopian Villas offers both park models and tiny homes so that anyone can find their perfect downsizing solution. It also encourages customers to come up with their own ideas, and then it builds their dream home from scratch. The Funk comes with a $101,778 price tag and can be further customized to match its owner's lifestyle. Adding a small deck, for instance, would help expand the living areas outside for a stronger connection to the outdoors.

The Funk is a one-bedroom tiny home, but it stands out among all homes with a similar layout. It's never about the size; it’s the design, style, and craftsmanship that can turn even the smallest spaces into magical homes.
