The driver of a Ferrari Roma slammed his car into several trees after his car started spinning on the road while he was trying to overtake a vehicle driven by a police officer who was off duty that morning.
It seems that the winter holidays are not exactly the most wonderful time of the year. Not for this driver right here. Early morning, right on New Year's Eve, while driving on the M40 Southbound near Warwick, he tried to overtake an off-duty police officer at high speed.

The driver of the supercar lost control on the wet road, left the asphalt behind, and crashed into the trees on the side of the road. Fortunately, the driver walked away with one minor injuries. Nobody else was involved in the incident.

We can’t say the same thing about the Ferrari, though. Photos uploaded on Facebook by the Warwickshire Police show the extent of the damages sustained by the Italian supercar, which has every chance in the world to be declared a write-off. The front end must have taken the most serious blow.

The hood and bumper have left their usual positions and the front right wheel wheels seem to be torn off. There is massive damage to the doors and front and rear fenders as well, but also to the rear. Furthermore, the rear window was shattered in the impact.

The police said that the car started spinning on the road after the driver lost control. More than the skills of the driver and their wish to arrive fast at their destination, the wet, slippery surface of the road is to blame. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the crash.

The weather has been terribly bad these past few days in the United Kingdom. Before New Year's Eve, Storm Gerrit brought chaos to the infrastructure, disrupting road, air, railway, and ferry transportation. Wind, rain, snow, and floods affected the UK. Gerrit was followed by Strom Henk which came along with 94 mph wind gusts.

All the chaos caused by the storms, along with the holiday rush, must have complicated driving. At the time of the crash, flood warnings issued by the authorities were in effect.

The insurance company is surely not going to like to hear this. The Ferrari Roma is an almost $250,000 affair. However, personalization options can take the pricing of the supercar way over $300,000. The Roma is powered by the 3.9-liter turbocharged V8 engine in a front-mid, rear-wheel drive layout. The V8 generates 612 horsepower (620 PS) and 561 lb-ft (761 Nm) of torque. Those are enough for a run from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 kph) in 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 199 mph (320 kph).
