The all-new MG3 has just debuted in Geneva with the new Hybrid+ technology. The supermini is tagged as "fun to drive" while also being fuel-efficient.
MG’s Hybrid+ technology is making its debut with the all-new MG3 as the first conventional, non-plug-in hybrid system powering an MG-branded model.

The system integrates a 1.5-liter Atkinson-cycle petrol engine good for 101 horsepower (102 metric horsepower) and an electric motor, which brings along 134 horsepower (136 metric horsepower) for a combined system output of 191 horsepower (194 metric horsepower). The engine is mated to a three-speed automatic transmission.

The model is equipped with a 1.83 kWh battery which improves efficiency. The system allows the driver to choose one of the multiple driving modes available, all sporting relevant names: EV, Series, Series and Charge, Drive and Charge, and Parallel.

The EV mode makes the car run on electric power only, while the Series allows the engine to run through to the generator, which powers the electric motor. Meanwhile, the Series and Charge mode allows the recharge of the battery on the move during low load.

In the Drive and Charge mode, the engine drives the wheels and charges the battery, while Parallel puts both the engine and electric motor to work. The driver can also choose Eco, Standard, and Sport, depending on their driving style.

The company describes it as the fastest accelerating hybrid hatchback in the B-segment. It runs from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 97 kph) in 8 seconds flat and goes from 50 to 75 mph (80 to 120 kph) in just 5.0 seconds.

The carmaker claims the model now offers more space compared to the outgoing MG3, a change that makes an impact on its compact overall dimensions, which makes it perfect for urban driving routes.

The car is now bigger in every direction. It measures 162.0 inches (4,113 millimeters) long, 70.7 inches (1,797 millimeters) wide, and 59.1 inches (1,502 millimeters) tall, while sporting a wheelbase of 101.1 inches (2,570 millimeters).

MG claims that the supermini now features better sound insulation and a retuned, more comfortable suspension, which enhances refinement.

The MG3 supermini will be available with two specifications, both featuring the new Hybrid+ powertrain. Therefore, the customers in the UK can go for either the SE or the Trophy grade.

The future owners will benefit from the presence of the twin-screen cockpit, which integrates a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen. The switches in the center console have been relocated to provide more safety and convenience while driving.

The list of standard equipment includes navigation, smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and air conditioning, plus a six-speaker audio system with Bluetooth connection, four USB ports, rear parking sensors, and a camera.

The Trophy grade brings along leather-style upholstery, keyless entry, heated front seats and steering wheel, plus a 360-degree camera.

Alloy wheels, LED headlights, and six paint schemes are on the menu of the MG3 designed in the Shanghai studio.

The automaker offers a seven-year or 80,000-mile warranty as standard.
