With Ford recently ditching it altogether and other companies not so sure about their future models, the supermini segment is not that disputed anymore in the Old Continent and Asia. However, there are still a few companies that plan to keep the subcompact hatchback alive, and one of them is MG.
The SAIC-owned brand's proposal in the segment is called the MG3 and has remained on the market since 2011, when the second and latest generation came out. Two years later, it received a facelift, and another mid-cycle refresh was given to it in 2018.

But this is an aging product, and the automaker is well aware of it. As a result, they have started working on its successor, and we have the first spy images of a fully camouflaged prototype. It doesn't look like an evolution of its predecessor as it has matured, and we can admit that the design is more appealing.

Looking like a mix between the modern-day Peugeot 2008 subcompact hatchback and the larger Mercedes A-Class, the all-new MG3 is prettier. It has a pointier nose defined by a grille that holds the license plate, an apron-like piece integrated into the new bumper, sweptback headlamps likely with LED tech, side vents, and a rather muscular hood.

The window line looks more premium, and the lines on the lower parts of the doors are a clear reference to the current car. The vertical taillights of the outgoing MG3 were replaced by a pair of sleeker units on the new car. The tailgate is also new and incorporates the license plate holder. The bumper has a more aggressive design, and we can also see a roof spoiler with a cleaner design.

While the cockpit is not visible in the scoops provided by our spy photographers, we can assume it will be more modern than that of the older MG3. Chances are it will feature an infotainment system in the middle of the dashboard, and upper specs might get digital dials. The steering wheel will also be new and more modern looking, and we can expect better quality materials on the inside.

Set to take on the likes of the Volkswagen Polo, Toyota Yaris, Hyundai i20, Renault Clio, and other superminis, which also included Ford's Fiesta until recently, the all-new MG3 will launch in Europe and Asia. It is expected to pack hybrid-only power, though details surrounding the powertrain are yet unknown. Another thing that we cannot tell you is when it will premiere, but our spies believe it might be due in 2024. It should launch in selected markets shortly after the grand unveiling, and it needs to be very good to steal some sales from its rivals. But would you buy it if given the chance?
