Tesla Motors founder and front man Elon Musk was named the “Most Influential Man” of 2013, topping Askmen’s “Top 49 Men” ahead of athlete Jason Collins, actor Bryan Cranston, astronaut Chris Hadfield and Nelson Mandela, who needs no introduction.
We don’t know about you, but we feel like Musk really deserves a “virtual” award like this, as he managed to turn Tesla Motors - a company that was struggling to find its place on the American market in 2012 - into the most successful electric car manufacturer. The Model S now sells more than 5,000 units per quarter and surpasses less expensive EVs like the Chevrolet Volt and the Nissan Leaf.
In fact, the Tesla Model S outguns gasoline-powered luxury cars such as the Mercedes S-Class, Lexus LS and the BMW 7 Series, something we wrote about earlier this year. Quarterly sales have passed the 5,500 mark and will probably continue to increase, although recent Model S fires have caused company stock to drop and prompted the NHTSA to launch an investigation.
Elon Musk “might actually be a superhero”, says Askmen, and tells his story from the very beginning - since he was “churning out high-priced Roadsters” and “collecting some of the most valuable investors in Silicon Valley”.
