Now that we’ve introduced you to Quanta’s hybrid Corvette C6 Z06, how about we take a look at an all electric 1965 Ford Mustang. Don’t panic now, this isn’t some kind of experiment Ford did 50 years ago, but a home-built projects that belongs to Larry Gareffa.
The vehicle was displayed at the 2013 SEMA Show - and we have a feeling it didn’t attract a lot of attention - but our friend over at Mustangs Daily did notice it, took a few shots and had a chat with the owner. It seems the Mustang was bought without an engine and fitted with a “series wound traction motor intended for hoisting elevators” that’s powered by a dozen 12-volt batteries.

The range is limited to only 25 to 30 miles (40-48 km) and recharging takes up to five hours at any of the local charging stations. Power ratings are not available, but the owner says it feels like “a vintage six-cylinder Mustang under full throttle”. However, Gareffa hopes to update the vehicle with lithium-ion batteries and improve the range to 75 miles (120 km).

While we like our Mustangs with V8 engines under the hood, we must admit this is an interesting home-built project. You can check out more photos of the vehicle over at Mustangs Daily.
