Tesla is preparing to make a big announcement regarding the refreshed Model 3 Performance. Several prototypes have been spotted in Florida, including an uncamouflaged one at the Kennedy Space Center. Rumor has it that Tesla has sent invitations to journalists to test drive the Model 3 Performance.
Tesla is working on the sportiest variant of the refreshed Model 3, with previous rumors indicating that it might be officially announced by the end of the first quarter. Since we're approaching that deadline fast, many people wonder when we will hear official information about the Model 3 Performance or, perhaps, Model 3 Ludicrous, as some believe it might be named.

Last September, the revamped Model 3 was launched in Europe and parts of Asia from Giga Shanghai. The electric sedan had its US launch in January and has seen a warm welcome from everybody who bought it or drove it. However, until now, only the Model 3 RWD and the Model 3 LR AWD have been offered. The most anticipated variant, the Model 3 Performance, is yet to be unveiled, allowing speculations to run wild.

The latest rumors regarding the Ludicrous-badged Model 3 indicated that Tesla will make an official announcement by the end of March. Deliveries of the Model 3 Performance are expected to begin in May. However, whether this is for the Europe/Asia, the US markets or both is still unclear. Fresh information shows that Tesla is preparing to share important information about the Model 3 Performance in the coming week.

Tesla enthusiast Yan Chang (@cyfoxcat) claims Tesla has begun inviting global media representatives to test drive the Model 3 Performance. Whether this would happen in China or elsewhere is unclear, but Chang lives in China. In the meantime, people spotted an unusually high number of Model 3 Performance prototypes in Florida. Most of them are still wearing the psychedelic camo, although one seen at the Kennedy Space Center was completely naked.

The Space Center could be a good place to host an international media launch for the Model 3 Performance. The former NASA shuttle runaway, 300 feet (91 meters) wide and 3.2 miles (5.15 km) long, is now used for high-speed vehicle testing. This could be the right place to test the Model 3 Performance's acceleration and top speed. However, the Ludicrous EV is rumored to also feel at home on a race track, so a race circuit might be a better match.

As for what to expect from the updated Model 3 Performance, a recent report from the Korean Ministry of Environment has already spilled the beans. According to this report, the upcoming Model 3 Performance will have 627 horsepower thanks to a new 412-hp rear motor. This is a massive upgrade over the previous unit, which delivered 100 horsepower less. The front motor and the battery pack will be identical to those in the refreshed Model 3 Long Range.
