Despite Elon Musk's promises, Tesla doesn't appear to have a Cybertruck launch event in the third quarter. The moment could be close, though, as some Tesla employees were allegedly handed out "Cybertruck Launch Team" apparel to wear at the event.
During the first-quarter earnings call in April, Elon Musk told investors that Tesla will have a delivery event for the Cybertruck in the third quarter of 2023. As the deadline approached, people got thrilled as the Cybertruck moved from prototyping to release candidate and, recently, master candidate phase that no one heard before. However, since no official announcement was made, hopes gave way to resignation.

Despite all the progress at Giga Texas, where the Cybertruck will soon enter series production, there's no way Tesla will have the event on September 30. Even if Musk planned a surprise party for the Cybertruck, I'm sure someone would've spoiled the show by posting the invitation and bragging about attending the event long ago. Although this hasn't happened yet, there's another hint shared on social media, albeit a lot more vague.

Somebody shared the picture of a jacket marked with "Launch Team" words and the Cybertruck logo on Facebook. According to the original poster, the photo came from a friend who works at Giga Texas. They explained that such apparel was received by people who would be working during the delivery event. Being Facebook, of course, some people started mocking the picture, claiming that somebody misspelled the word "lunch."

I don't think this is a joke, but I also don't feel that the event will happen soon. Being such an important launch not only for Cybertruck reservation holders but also for Tesla, the EV maker would want to make as much noise as possible. And yet, it remained completely silent, with the only mention of a Cybertruck event made as part of its referral program. At the end of August, Tesla announced that Tesla users can redeem their referral points for an invitation to attend the upcoming Cybertruck Delivery Event.

In replies to the picture shared on the Tesla CyberTruck Facebook group, another alleged Tesla employee claimed that the event will not happen this year but next year in the first quarter "for lucky few." It's impossible to verify whether he really works at Giga Texas and has any knowledge of Tesla's plans regarding the Cybertruck launch event.

If you follow the discussion on the Cybertruck Owners Club forums, somebody with the nickname IJNYamato replied that they had Cybertruck Launch Team gear for 11 months now, and still, nothing happened. They also say, "Don't worry guys, the wait is almost over. For real." This could also mean anything. What's clear is that the event will not happen in the third quarter of 2023, with a 50:50 chance to occur in the fourth quarter or next year. Definitely.
