In the light of “I’m famous, I talk straight to my fans on social media,” Vin Diesel has just changed his profile picture subtly making a big announcement. It seems it's been decided who is going to direct the next installment of the hugely successful car-smash franchise.
Straight Out of Compton and into Furious 8’s director seat - that seems to be F. Gary Gary’s road, considering he is the person next to whom Diesel is sitting in the picture you can see above.
Mark Sinclair on his real name has been on a public roller coaster lately as he kept on teasing everybody about who is going to be the next person to hold the wheel of the next Fast and Furious installment. After he hinted at the franchise’s initial director, Rob Cohen, three other names have been mentioned recently.
According to Coming Soon, yesterday the list of potential Fast and Furious number 8 heads was said to be Straight Outta Compton’s F. Gary Gary, Now You See Me’s Louis Leterrier, The Signal’s Will Eubank and You’re Next and The Guest’s Adam Wingard. Needless to say that even if Vin Diesel is one of the producers of the films, he has no last word on the director.
Gray seemed to be the favorite among the other filmmakers and with the actor’s announcement now we know for sure. The next question to ask is whether or not he is fit for the job. The 46-year-old film director has started with music videos, working with artists like Ice Cube, Cypress Hill, Outkast, Dr. Dre and Queen Latifah.
At 24, Gray directed his first film, the urban comedy Friday with Ice Cube and Chris Tucker. Set It Off, The Negotiator, The Italian Job, Law Abiding Citizen followed. With Diesel, he has been working before on a violent action thriller named A Man Apart, so it shouldn’t be a problem partnering up once more.
