Ludacris Attends the ‘Furious 7’ 300 NASCAR Race at Chicagoland Speedway

What do car-chasing movies and NASCAR have in common? Only the obvious of course. Fast and Furious in particular is not just any auto scene franchise, with the latest installment getting close to a $2 billion box office. The least they could do was sponsoring a racing event.

As you may recall from earlier this summer, Chicagoland Speedway announced that Furious 7 is the title sponsor for its NASCAR XFINITY Series race. We haven’t watched the whole event (since it was Saturday evening, after all) but we know Kyle Busch outdueled Matt Kenseth over two final laps to win the race.

We also know that one of the actors had an important role throughout the event. The Furious 7 300 featured cast member Chris “Ludacris” Bridges in the pace car and leading the field to the green flag as NASCAR’s stars of tomorrow set the stage for the first race in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.

It might come as a surprise, but such partnerships have happened before. "As we saw first-hand with our groundbreaking Fast Five partnership back in 2011, UPHE understands the thrills that come along with great racing and the power that can be harnessed through NASCAR Nation," said Scott Paddock, President of Chicagoland Speedway, in a June press release.

Racing alone is what makes this race interesting and popular, but that doesn’t mean a little bit of celebrity salt and pepper will harm the event’s image. In what concerns Universal Pictures, it’s also a good occasion for the film giant to promote the movie’s release on the On demand issue as an all-new extended edition.

For those who haven’t followed NASCAR recently, we’ll remind you that the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup weekend at Chicagoland Speedway, Sept. 18-20, begun with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race under the lights on Friday night.

On Saturday, Sept. 19, the NASCAR XFINITY Series hit the track as the precursor to Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series showdown, the first race in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.
