Will Furious 8 Be Handled by the Franchise’s Initial Director, Rob Cohen?

They say it’s best to stick with the path you know, even if it may prove to be a longer one. If handing a successful franchise to the person who took care of it at the very beginning means doing that, it would seem the Fast and Furious actor and co-producer Vin Diesel won’t mind going down that route.
Robert Cohen is the director of The Fast and the Furious, the first installment of the car-chasing saga that is currently one of the most successful franchises in Hollywood’s history. After that one, the crew has worked with several other filmmakers. Vin Diesel, who, meanwhile, has become co-producer, has been teasing his former colleague on Instagram, so we can only assume he wants him back.

After all, the car-smashing saga is not the only pic they’ve worked together, with the first XxX installment being another successful action film that saw the two joining forces. Come to think about it, things make quite a lot of sense, especially that Dominic Toretto’s impersonator has previously announced a third triple-X will start pre-production in December.

The man that introduced me to my producing partner Neal and who cast Jordana as my eternal sister... The one who allowed for such a powerful and blessed love with Michelle... And like a father, had created the brotherhood that would define a millennium. Rob Cohen... I hear you, Pablo...” This is what Diesel wrote next to a picture of the cast of The Fast and The Furious movie he just posted online.

We’re not saying it’s all thanks to the director, but we should all recall that the first Fast and Furious movie was a huge success. A film inspired by a Vibe magazine article about street racing in New York City, it turned out to be interesting for a lot of people. The film’s budget was estimated at $38 million (EUR34 million), grossing $207,283,925 (EUR185804886) worldwide.

Say Cohen will agree to return, will he direct all three of the next planned Fast and Furious installments or just number 8? Time will tell.
