In a galaxy far, far away George Lucas directed a coming of age comedy-drama that had nothing to do with the outer space. Only looking at the cast of this legendary pic will make your jaw drop. You may get a similar reaction knowing that the only 1958 Impala Sport Coupe built by the Hollywood legend’s production company is going under the hammer.
The film is a study of the cruising and rock and roll cultures popular among the post-World War II baby boom generation. It stars iconic actors such as Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Harrison Ford and many others.

American Graffiti received widespread critical acclaim and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture, thus turning in one of the most profitable films of all time. With that big of a fame factor, we can only expect this piece of history to sell for tons of cash.

The 1958 Impala Sport Coupe was owned by character Steve Bolander (played by a young 19-year-old Ron Howard). However, you probably remember seeing the vehicle being driven by “The Toad” (played by Charles Martin Smith). Once Bolander hands him over the keys, the evening of personal amusement kicks off, and the rest is history.

The classic Chevy comes with the original California DMV registration card issued to Lucas Film LTD. As if it wasn’t great already, this also is the first time in 42 years the car is available for sale to the public. According to Yahoo Auto, the vehicle has been in the hands of Mike Famalette of Vallejo, California, since 1972, when the studio sold the cars starring in the film who ended up buying the Impala for something less than $325.

Considering the pre-auction estimate for the car ranges from $800,000 to $1.2 million, it’s safe to say the vehicle’s value has constantly increased. The Profiles in History Hollywood Auction 74 is set for September 29 through October 1st.
