There have been constant rumors about Volkswagen launching a hot GTX derivative of the ID. Buzz and this model has finally been confirmed. Not only that, but it appears to have been spied during a testing session at the Nurburgring in Germany.
There are a few key things that make us believe this is the ID. Buzz GTX. First and foremost, the regular models were introduced last year, so it would be too soon for Volkswagen to be preparing the mid-cycle refresh. Second, it features a few sporty touches compared to the regular variants, hence why it is likely the GTX that our spy photographers scooped while it was being driven hard at the famous racetrack.

While the headlights, linked together by a light strip interrupted in the middle by the corporate logo, carry over, the bumper is all-new. We can see that it has a redesigned lower section with a sporty intake and fresh trim to the sides. The profile is identical, though the wheels are larger, and the vehicle appears to sit closer to the asphalt. We cannot see any changes at the rear yet, but we at least expect it to get a new bumper and maybe a bigger wing at the top of the tailgate. Don't mind the glossy finish of certain elements, as they are the same as the regular minivan.

Volkswagen has confirmed the ID. Buzz GTX will feature a dual-motor powertrain that is expected to deliver in the region of 330 hp (335 ps/246 kW). This makes it 35-horsepower punchier than the GTX variant of the ID.4 crossover and will shave some half or maybe a full second from 0-60 mph (0-97 kph) sprint of the regular ID-Buzz, which can do it in almost eight seconds aided by its single-motor generating 282 hp. Mind you, that's hardly sports car territory, but the GTX version of the ID. Buzz sits in the people-carrying league, so its performance will be impressive for a vehicle in this segment.

In addition to the dual-motor setup, the ID.Buzz GTX will feature some chassis tweaks, like the revised suspension that will make it a bit stiffer and will bring it closer to the asphalt. It will likely get uprated brakes and some updates in the cabin, such as the specific trim elements and special upholstery to differentiate it from the normal versions. We should find out more about it in the coming months as it gears up for launch next year.

On a final note, the GTX suffix hasn't been confirmed by VW for the hot ID. Buzz and it has been rumored that the moniker might be replaced by the GTI emblem. Still, that might happen later on, and let's not forget that the German marque also has the R logo available for performance-oriented models.
