These days, everyone from the BMW fan community has something to say about the controversial design choices of the Bavarian automaker. Some are decidedly vocal, while others are incredibly subtle even when performing outrageous makeovers.
Musa Rio Tjahjono, aka musartwork on social media, seems to live a dual life even across the virtual realm. So, during work hours he is the Head Designer of the world-famous West Coast Customs aftermarket powerhouse. Then, when it’s time for relaxation, he turns into a prolific pixel master with a knack for all sorts of spicy JDM recipes.

But, as it turns out, at least recently when he doesn’t fancy something JDM we can easily bet that he’s got something BMW cooking. Case in point, the latest interpretation of a Bavarian icon is a bit more outrageous than his previous i8 and Deep Blue with Copper accents E30 M3. But even so, the classic 2002 coupe manages to remain a tad more subtle than some contemporary M3/M4 spiritual successors.

First of all, although a lot more elongated than we were previously accustomed to, the kidney grille doesn’t get blown to smithereens. Even more so, it’s painted glossy black to bode well with the rest of the slotted front assembly. That way, it will provide a rich and deep contrast to the CGI expert’s chosen paintjob – a Metallic Yellow.

Naturally, that’s not the most outrageous design choice seen here. That chapter would easily include the ultra-slammed looks, the extra-widebody fender flare kit, or the slightly cambered golden-mesh aftermarket wheels. Even so, as far as I am concerned, the styling remains a level more subtle than what BMW achieved on the official BMW M3/M4 incarnations.

Sure, beauty is always in the eye of the beholder and this one might not be everyone’s cup of tea. Although it does proudly adhere to every modern customization norm (slammed, widebody, quirky aftermarket wheel setup, etc.) out there. Hey, it even has cool DRL LEDs tucked inside the classic bumper protections!
