We don't understand why the Skoda Scala is being compared to the Audi A3. It's an eco-box, not a premium car, but that doesn't mean it can't have an RS version.
Generally speaking, the bigger the car is, the more money you can ask for it. That's why the Fabia RS was never as popular as the Octavia RS. That and the unreliable twin-charger 1.4 TSI... and the weird styling... and the lack of a manual.
But the Scala RS has every chance of being put into production because the base car is even bigger and more practical than a Golf GTI. Skoda even hinted at this when it previewed the Vision RS concept at the Paris Motor Show.
And since there haven't been any serious concept they showed without putting them into production; this rendering could be a preview of something that's coming a few years down the line. Aksyonov Nikita made it happen with elements from the Kodiaq and some rally bits. We're not fans of his racing stripes, but it would have been boring without them.
So considering Skoda has never built a car like this before, we have to wonder what it would be like. First, let's take a look at the concept, which was a hybrid with a 1.5 turbo and an electric motor pushing out 245 horsepower. The number seems a tad ambitious, but we don't doubt Europeans are looking for a green hot hatch.
But the engine we'd want to see here is the 2.0 TSI. It's not as economical, sure, but if you want that why not just get a Prius with a body kit? We think the next Octavia RS is going to push around 260-270 HP, leaving room for a 220 HP hatchback to slot underneath. A 200 HP Polo GTI engine wouldn't be the end of the world either, especially at the right price.
