There are few things if any at all, modern audiences would find fault with in Robert Downey Jr. Often described as the perfect comeback Hollywood story, RDJ is today a beloved actor, influential producer, a savvy businessman, and a keen environmentalist.
One of his most recent projects has a little bit of all these from RDJ. No, we're not talking about Oppenheimer, Chris Nolan's movie that sees RDJ go "serious" and for which he's already been rewarded with serious Oscar buzz, but about his MAX docu-series, Downey's Dream Cars.
Downey's Dream Cars came as a total surprise, if only for the simple reason that not even industry people would have imagined RDJ doing reality programming of any kind. Then, there was the fact that he revealed himself as a passionate car collector and an equally passionate environmentalist. In fact, the idea for the series came to be when these two passions collided, and he had the revelation that you can drive on fossil fuels and still hope to have a planet to leave to your children.
Bottom line, RDJ set out to convert his garage of classics into electric vehicles. That's what the docu-series is all about: the challenge to himself to find a crew to work with, to oversee a conversion of this scale, and even to add new vehicles to the collection.
Now, one of those converted vehicles could be yours. The other day, RDJ took to his Instagram Stories to point out that there's a very neat giveaway happening, and it involves six of the cars shown on the MAX docu-series. So you're not only getting a converted classic but also a famous car because it's been on a TV show and it's been driven by RDJ.
"In case you haven't heard yet, I'm giving away some of my cars," the actor wrote on his social media. Surprisingly, few had heard, so it was a great thing he stepped up to the plate. The cars he's talking about are a 1965 Chevrolet Corvette, a 1966 Buick Riviera, a 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SE, a 1972 Chevrolet K10 Pickup, a 1972 VW Bus, and a 1985 Chevrolet El Camino.
The giveaway is similar to those on Omaze: you can enter without having to purchase anything or donate, but if you do either, you get more entries and, so, more chances at the big prize. There will be six drawings for each of the six cars on February 2, 2024, March 29, April 22, May 26, June 30, and July 31. Entries can be made through to July 16, 2024.
The sponsor for the giveaway and the beneficiary of all donations is the Edward Charles Foundation, a Beverly Hills-based foundation that helps administer charitable funds to causes like poverty, disease, and inequity around the world. So, if you win, you won't just be getting the chance to "experience the future of automotive technology" and to own a neat piece of celebrity memorabilia, but you'll also be contributing to a greater cause.
