The 911 is the longest-surviving nameplate in the brand's family. It first appeared back in the 1960s on models featuring air-cooled engines, and it has surely withstood the test of time.
You see, unlike other automakers, which have willingly killed some iconic monikers for the sake of making more crossovers and SUVs (sometimes pickups, too), Porsche thinks the 911 has a future. And they haven't drastically changed the design over the last few decades. This makes the model instantly recognizable, and the average Joe probably cannot tell the old ones apart from the 992 at first glance.

However, despite looking very similar to its predecessors, the modern-day 911 boasts better everything, from the chassis setup and brakes to the engine family, technology, safety, and comfort. And quite surprisingly, it has managed to evade the electric trend. In fact, Porsche has confirmed that it will try and keep the 911 away from the EV trend for as long as possible, though the key here could be e-fuels.

Thus, in the future, it may not drink gasoline anymore, but at least it won't get a battery pack and several electric motors. Mind you, a self-charging hybrid is on the cards, and it should help the Zuffenhausen company decide on what the future of the nameplate should be, and they'll probably use it to learn how to adapt to the fast-shifting market. As far as the design is concerned, we think the German car marque will keep the traditional recipe that it's famously known for.

Unofficially, though, there have been several takes on trying to imagine the future of the 911 over the last few years. One of the latest that we crossed paths with was made by automatyve on Instagram, reshared by car.design.trends recently. This CGI proposal imagines the model with fresh styling cues all around and somehow manages to keep the iconic shape alive. Some may argue that it has lost its appeal, yet we think it's probably similar to what we will see in one, two, or maybe three decades from now.

The face looks instantly recognizable as something Porsche would make, bringing a pair of LED headlights that retain the famous shape. The front hood has a very aggressive design, and the nose is very familiar. We can see that it has hidden door handles, a pair of cameras replacing the traditional mirrors, fat side skirts, muscular shoulders, and a redesigned back end with a full-width light strip. Since there are no vents to cool down the engine and no visible tailpipes, we think it's an EV take on the 911, but as we already told you, that's not what Porsche has in store for it. So, what do you think about it?
