Due to its construction, the Jeep Compass has never been synonymous with off-roaders, regardless of whether we're talking about the first-gen that came out after the mid-2000s or the second-gen that is currently seven years old.
You see, the old one was based on the same platform as the Jeep Patriot, Dodge Caliber, and Mitsubishi Outlander, whereas the latest shares many components with the Jeep Renegade, Fiat 500X, and Alfa Romeo Tonale. Therefore, it is nothing more than a high-riding minivan alternative.

Made at multiple factories all over the world, the current Jeep Compass is offered with a variety of gasoline engines, joined by a couple of diesels and a plug-in hybrid assembly. It was facelifted three years ago, and it costs only a few dollars more than the entry-level Renegade in the base configuration in our market.

The 2024 family comprises several trim levels, starting with the Sport and its $28,400 MSRP and ending with the High Altitude and Red, which can be ordered from $39,240 and $39,515, respectively. All of them pack the same 200-horsepower four-cylinder engine, which is good for 221 pound-feet (300 Nm) of torque.

Now, we already told you the Jeep Compass is no off-roader and cannot become one with that architecture. However, there are some copies out there that have tapped more into their wild sides by featuring several mods meant to allow them to tackle the great outdoors a bit easier.

The one pictured in the gallery above needs a few more things to venture farther into the unknown, and as it currently sits, it needs to decide whether it wants to be an off-roader or a mall crawler. The beefed-up styling, complete with the roof rack and additional lights, may make it suitable for a quick adventure off the beaten path.

However, the lower ground clearance, large alloys with normal tires wrapped around them, and front and rear bumper extensions, as well as the side skirt add-ons, are not exactly suitable for off-roading. The vehicle has a few other things that make it stand out even more, and it was christened the Jeep Compass Renegade Edition.

Actually, make that unofficially christened because it is as fake as its character. The model was brought to digital life using countless mouse clicks, and it is the work of bimbledesigns on Instagram. The rendering artist was responsible for rearranging its pixels in a rather confusing manner, and we would've perhaps liked it more if it was more off-road-prepped. Either that or made to look more aggressive without the off-road-y upgrades.

But you don't have to agree with us on that, as most of the social media users who have seen it think it is an interesting proposal. So, where do you stand?
