There was a time when Lincoln wasn't interested in crossovers and SUVs, but that time is long gone, as their current US lineup comprises only high-riders.
You have the Corsair, which is their most affordable new product currently on sale, the Nautilus, Aviator, and the Navigator, whose story began back in 1998. And since most car buyers are only interested in vehicles that have many inches between their bellies and the road and a tailgate opening up into a generous cargo area these days, Ford's premium division won't give up on such rides anytime soon.

Thus, no matter how badly one may want a new Continental or a Town Car, Lincoln has no interest in making it, not when it comes to the New World anyway. And you do remember the latter model, don't you? It used to be a full-size luxury sedan that took a swing at Germany's big three, and in the long-wheelbase flavor, it is about as spacious as the modern-day BMW 7 Series.

The Town Car story began in 1980 when Lincoln introduced the first generation. It was related to the era's Mercury Grand Marquis, Ford LTD Crown Victoria, and Continental Mark VI. Lincoln offered it in two body styles, with two and four doors, and both packed a V8 with a four-speed auto 'box mated to it. The first-gen stuck around until 1989, when the automaker replaced it with an entirely new generation. The two-door model was gone from the offering, as it only came as a sedan, and a pair of V8s were available.

Made in the United States, Canada, and China, the third-generation Lincoln Town Car started production in 1997, and like its predecessor, it was only offered as a sedan. The underpinnings were the same as those of the era's Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis, and a V8 was the sole choice, paired with a four-speed auto. Lincoln kept making the Town Car until 2011 when they decided to pull the plug on it altogether. Thus, the last one rolled off the line on August 29, marking the end of a rather long era. That was the last time Lincoln used this moniker, and by the looks of it, it won't make a comeback as a luxury sedan anytime soon.

Now, that does not mean such a ride cannot exist in Fantasy Land, and if you're into renderings, then you'll probably like the design of the sketched one. It was made by jlord8 and is an unofficial modern-day proposal of the Town Car, sporting looks that tie it to the brand's latest high-riding vehicles. The fresh face and rear coach doors contribute to the special appeal, and if it looks kind of familiar, that's because the same digital artist also gave it a shot recently at trying to pen a new Ford Crown Vic. You can check out that rendering here, preferably after taking a closer look at the imagined Town Car.
