Just like other brands operating under Stellantis' roof (and not only), Maserati is reinventing itself. As you can assume, the Trident company's future is electric, and they have already taken a few steps in this direction.
What's truly sad about this news is that Maserati will no longer offer any internal combustion engine-powered vehicles in the near future. The V8 is already dead and buried at the Modena marque, and subsequently, so will the smaller lumps.

Mind you, it's not only the ICE units that are going away, as so are the automaker’s sedans. You will want to pour one out for the Ghibli and Quattroporte, which are expected to drive off into the sunset sometime this year. Yep, you read that right; two of the most iconic Maserati models, and their only sedans, are about to bite the dust.

Logic tells us Maserati will not give up on these two, as there is still money to be made in these segments, especially with partially or fully electrified powertrains. Thus, it would make a lot of sense to launch new generations of the Ghibli and Quattroporte and position them against the likes of other similarly sized premium four-door sedans.

But is this really what the Italian car manufacturer has up its sleeve? It appears the answer is yes, as rumors speak of electric replacements for both. It's unknown when they will grace the market with their Folgore suffixes that highlight their battery-electric nature, yet it appears that they're currently on hold. Or the larger one is, apparently.

What about the Ghibli, you ask? Well, we should wait at least until the end of the year to find out if its replacement is indeed coming and if it will be an EV, like its bigger sibling, or that's what we think anyway. Meanwhile, the business sedan has fallen victim to the CGI realm, with several pixel manipulators trying to imagine what its successor will look like.

One of the latest unofficial takes on it has tedoradze.giorgi on Instagram behind it, and it is a very sexy proposal. Looking like a true Tesla Model S killer, this digital machine is instantly recognizable as a Maserati due to the front grille that's flanked by slim LED taillights. It has an aggressive front hood, muscular wheel arches, a sloping roofline, and a very youthful styling.

But why call it a Tesla Model S fighter and a BMW M5 challenger? Because it digitally carries the Folgore suffix, so it would be an all-quiet super sedan. We hope Maserati's design team sees this rendering and decides to use some of the styling cues on the next-gen Ghibli, as it would be a pity for it to die in Fantasy Land.
