2023 Maserati Grecale GT

When Maserati introduced the Levante SUV back in 2016, the world was shocked. Still, the car sold well and brought some money into the company's accounts. But Maserati's journey into the SUV segment didn't stop there; it continued with the Grecale in 2022, as a 2023 model year.

With a crossover market more crowded than ever, the Italian carmaker had to come up with new ideas and bring something more spectacular than its competitors to get more sales. And it came with a vehicle based on the same Giorgio platform shared with the Stelvio, Giulia, and Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The Grecale looked more like a scaled-down Levante from the outside, and it was instantly recognizable Maserati thanks to its lines on the hood and the brand-specific triangular headlights. It didn't feature the same split-grille at the front, which looked more like a wide hexagonal air intake, flanked on the lower sides by air scoops for cooling the brakes. From its profile, the sloped rear end resembled the same shape as the Levante.

Maserati installed a lavish cabin with leather upholstery and room for five. At the front, the bucket seats featured bolstered areas to keep the occupants safe in place. For the dashboard, the carmaker made an unusually shaped center stack to accommodate the wide 12.3" touchscreen for the infotainment system. For the instrument cluster, the Grecale featured another 12.3" display, while an 8.8" touchscreen offered the comfort controls. Last but not least, a digital clock adorned the dashboard design atop the center stack.

Under the hood, Maserati made use of the twin-turbocharged three-liter V6 with a wet-sump instead of the dry-sump one found on the MC20. Apart from this, there was also a mild-hybrid version and, for the first time in carmaker's history, a full-electric version.
