Maserati joined the EV revolution and introduced an all-electric version of the Grecale SUV, named Folgore (lightning in Italian), in late 2022 as a 2023 model year.

Maserati introduced its first crossover, the Levante, in 2016, and the carmakers' sales jumped over 50,000 units the following year for the first time in the brand's history. Then, unfortunately, sales plummeted during the world pandemic but started to recover after that. Thus, the company's management understood that despite all the critics, it had to build an SUV. And then, in 2022, it added a second model: the Grecale. The new model was shorter and based on the same Grigio platform as the Alfa Romeo Stelvio and the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The Grecale looked more like a scaled-down Levante from the outside. It was instantly recognizable Maserati thanks to its lines on the hood and the brand-specific triangular headlights. Unlike its siblings, it featured a fake grille since its electric motors didn't need that much cooling area. In addition, on the sides, the Folgere version got the same three vents, although these were closed and hinted at the three-motor setup.

Maserati built an opulent cabin with space for five people and leather furnishings. The bucket seats in the front have bolstered sections to keep the occupants securely in place. In addition, the automobile manufacturer designed an oddly curved center stack for the dashboard to fit the large 12.3" touchscreen for the infotainment system. The Grecale has an additional 12.3" display for the instrument cluster and an 8.8" touchscreen for comfort features. Last but not least, the center stack included a digital clock.

In the Folgore version, the Grecale received a three-motor setup, one at the front and two at the rear, fed by a 105 kW battery pack.

Six years after the introduction of the Levante SUV, Maserati dared to launch a new crossover on the market, albeit this time, it was smaller and based on a different platform.

While the Levante was built on top of the M156 platform shared with the Quattroporte and Ghibli, the Grecale used the Grigio one, shared with Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Jeep Grand Cherokee. But Maserati dared more and offered the Grecale as an IAC-only, hybrid, and full-electric vehicle. That was something that the older platform used by the Levant couldn't provide.

Sharing its overall shape with its bigger sibling, the Levante, it clearly showed its origins in the trident-badged brand. The lines on the hood and the triangular headlights were also part of Maserati's brand identity. On the lower side of the bumper, the automaker installed an A-shaped grille flanked by a pair of side scoops that helped to cool the front brakes. From its profile, the greenhouse sported a curved, coupe-like windows line, and on the raked-forward C-pillars, the automaker installed an additional badge.

Maserati's cars were also known for their sporty yet luxurious interiors. Thus, in the Modena version, it boasted a lavish cabin with leather upholstery and room for five adults. At the front, the automaker installed high-bolstered seats that kept their occupants in place during high-speed cornering, while at the back, the split-folding bench provided enough room for three adults. Yet, despite the three headrests, it was mostly designed for just two.

In the Modena version, the Grecale featured a mild-hybrid powertrain that provided 325 PS (320 hp). The turbocharged inline-four sent its power in all corners via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The SUV segment grows daily, and Maserati is catching up with the wave. If we look back to 2016, when Maserati introduced the Levante SUV, the world was shocked. Still, many were curious, and this brought some money into the company's accounts. Maserati continues the story in 2022 with a new performance SUV called Grecale, a 2023 model year.

In a crowded crossover market, the Italian carmaker developed a sporty, luxurious design to bring something more spectacular than its competitors. As you would expecti, Maserati is Porsche Macan`s most feared competitor. The Grecale seems to be a cosmopolitan, modern, timeless Italian. Though it is based on the same Giorgio platform shared with Stelvio, Giulia, and the Grand Cherokee.

Suppose Levante is a mid-size luxury SUV. What about the Grecale? Which looks more like a scaled-down Levante from the outside? Maserati kept the purity of shapes, free of ostentation, making it recognizable thanks to its lines on the hood and the brand-specific triangular headlights.

Maserati says they have the best in class interior roominess, and we say it is spacious enough for five adults to travel a few hours. The cabin quality and design are like a well-dressed Italian. The quality of soft leather, carbon fiber trims, and matte wood makes it very attractive.

The classical interior is combined with a futuristic 12.3`` TFT Cluster, two central angled displays of 12,3`` and 8,8`` divided by the digital gear shifter. Last but not least, a digital clock styled like a smartwatch adorned the dashboard design atop the center stack.

Let us see what about the performance. Under the hood, Grecale features only the latest engine capabilities. There are a few versions available for everyones tastes, the base version with open rear differential having 300hp or 330hp mild hybrid propulsion with a mechanical rear differential.

After these comes the super powerful yet efficient 530hp V6 Nettuno engine, wich is the same as found on the MC20. If on the MC20 you would expect more grawls from the engine and less turbo noise, on the Grecale this just fits perfectly, making it the sort of SUV that combines comfort with sportiness. Some race track features such as the CORSA mode with Launch Control are available on this version that will give you an unforgettable experience.

We must mention that the air springs and active dampers are perfectly fit, but they are not enogh to give that luxury car comfort while riding, expecially on the big, heavy 21 inch wheels. Considering all of these if you are the person who is more on sport version of this car and you are a bit less on the comfort side, this might be a good option.

For sure this care will make you feel noticed anywhere, all depends on what are you looking for. The Grecale as you would expect it`s more sporty than comfy.
