Back in November 2021, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration published recall number 21V-872 concerning 409 units of the Maserati MC20, Ghibli, and Quattroporte. Said vehicles had been equipped with a fuel line sensor housing that may crack and leak dinosaur juice, thus increasing the risk of an engine compartment fire.
Come April 2024, the folks at Maserati North America Inc. determined that 58 more vehicles may have been produced with suspect fuel line sensor housings. On this occasion, the affected population comprises a few Ghibli and Quattroporte sedans manufactured between April 2021 and August 2021 for the 2021 and 2022 model years.

The 58-strong recall population is split between 28 units of the Ghibli and 30 units of the Quattroporte. Unfortunately, the House of the Trident did not mention whether said vehicles were equipped with V6 or V8 engines. The question is, how did Maserati determine that 58 more vehicles had to be recalled? As it happens, the supplier was able to trace additional potentially defective housings.

Hutchinson Poland Sp. z o.o. is the supplier in question, with Sp. z o.o. meaning limited liability company in Rzeczpospolita Polska. The safety boffins at Maserati North America Inc. could not identify any fires related to the described issue.

Improper molding explains why the fuel line sensor housing is prone to cracking. The component in question carries part number 670153442, and remedy components have been properly molded. No later than May 30, 2024, dealers nationwide will be instructed to relace the fuel line sensor housing.

Affected owners will be notified via first-class mail on or about May 30 as well. In the meantime, owners can easily determine whether their Mazzers have been recalled or not by running the 17-character VIN on the federal agency's website.

Named after the hot desert wind, Maserati Ghibli and Studio Ghibli are very different animals. One is a BMW 5 Series-sized sports sedan, while the other is one of the most celebrated animation studios in Japan. The four-wheeled Ghibli was produced over three generations, with the current one rolling out in 2013 as the mid-size brother of the Quattroporte.

Codenamed M157, the third-generation Ghibli currently finds itself in the run-out phase. No successor is planned for the midsizer, but in four years' time, the Quattroporte will be redesigned on the STLA Large platform as an electric sedan. The Levante is also going STLA Large in 2027, although Maserati refers to its successor as the E-UV BEV rather than Levante, with E standing for E segment and BEV for battery electric vehicle.

It should be noted that Maserati also stopped making V8 vehicles in late 2023, with the Ghibli, Quattroporte, and Levante now coming with six- or four-cylinder engines. The MC20 is six-pot only for the time being, whereas the GranTurismo and GranCabrio can be had with the Nettuno twin-turbo V6 or a three-motor layout. The Grecale rounds off the Italian automaker's lineup with underpinnings from the Alfa Romeo Stelvio and a choice between a mild-hybrid 2.0-liter turbo I4, a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6, and dual-motor electric propulsion.
