Renault is considering offering hybrid vehicles by 2020, a company representative said earlier this week, while a company spokesman revealed an entry-level Dacia could follow if current developments are green-lighted.
According to French newspaper Les Echoes, Renault is working on several hybrid technologies, including a plug-in hybrid powertrain, that could spawn a number of production passenger vehicles within the next seven years: ”We are studying the gradual introduction of hybrids in our range by 2020,” said Renault director of powertrain strategy Marc Bodin.
Adding to the report, a company spokesman confirmed that Renault is indeed working on hybrid powertrains, but said “we have yet to make a decision about whether we will launch a hybrid car model.” But if Renault will decide to go ahead with the plan, he added, an entry-level Dacia hybrid could be developed as well.
"We want to make our technologies accessible, so we would, of course, offer a hybrid Dacia model as an affordable hybrid alternative if Renault were to ever decide to launch hybrid cars," the spokesman told Automotive News.
