Following in the footsteps of the Twingo RB7 and Clio RB7, Renault have officially announced that they will be making a special ‘Red Bull Racing’ edition of the Megane RS. Sales of the special model start this month in Austria, with French sales kicking off in September.
As with the other two RB7 cars, the Megane RS Red Bull Racing RB7 will feature special touches to differentiate it from the regular model. Noteworthy is the ‘Etoile Black’ body color, as well as the very nice yellow accents (front wing and mirrors), as well as the checkered flag roof decal. On the inside, it gets the same Recar bucket seats one would find in the regular car, a special shifter knob as well as a numbered plaque.

However, the aesthetic changes aren’t the main point of interest on the Megane RB7, because the addition of Stop/Start takes the cake as the most important addition to this version of the car. The system will only work when the car is not in sport mode, and it will limit its power to 250 hp, instead of the full 265.

Does it work? Well, according to Renault, the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine achieves a combined rating of 7.5 l/100 km (37.6 UK mpg), an improvement of 0.7 l/100 km over cars without the system, so yes, it does work.
