After it unveiled the model at the recent Geneva Motor Show in March, the French carmaker Renault has just announced that the Megane CC Floride is now available for purchase on the European market. Despite the fact that the coupe-cabriolet was not as popular as was originally expected, it has been fitted with all the bells and whistles, both inside and out, plus a touch of nostalgia.
As far back as the Swiss auto show, Renault had announced that the Floride equation only has room for a limited production run of 1,200 units, 450 of which are meant for the domestic market. This has not changed, but a €31,500 price tag has been added to the mix... Oh dear!
For the money, you get ivory diamond 17-inch alloy wheels as standard, while the body is offered with a single pearl ivory beige, which aims to bring out the finishes chosen for the interior. The ivory paint on the wheels is reminiscent of the white-wall tires with which the original cars were fitted in the '50s. The Megane CC Floride features also dual-zone automatic climate control, audio system, Bluetooth, USB port and the TomTom Navigator 2.0 Live integrated in the dashboard.
To make the vehicle stand out, the interior is finished in a “flamboyant shade of red, a classic cabriolet colour with a few ivory flourishes to create an elegant, distinctive feel that is wholly in keeping with the spirit of its forebear.”
Though it’s still unclear what the engine range will include in the rest of Europe, the French version is only available with the 1.9-liter diesel developing 130 horsepower.
