Renault has announced that the Scenic and Grand Scenic are the first of its models to be marketed with the Energy dCi 130 power under the bonnet. The new 130 horsepower engine promises to provide the best compromise between performance and fuel economy in the segment, thanks in part to technologies that are covered by some 15 registered patents.
“The start of 2011 has seen Renault unveil its new range of "Energy" engines which stand out as an eloquent illustration of the brand's mechanical excellence and uncompromising quality. They combine performance, driving enjoyment and fuel economy, and the first to reach the market is the Energy dCi 130,” the company press release states.
The 130 horsepower 1.6-liter diesel is one of the most powerful ones on the market for its size, while peak torque stands at 320Nm (at 1,500rpm). Combined with energy-saving technologies like Stop and Start and regenerative braking, the units cuts fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 20 percent, while running costs are also much lower. The two Renault MPVs consequently alone in combining such a high level of performance with CO2 emissions of less than 120 grams per kilometer (117g/km, equivalent to combined-cycle fuel consumption of 4.5 litres/100km).
“These powerplants pack the latest CO2 technologies in order to minimise emissions and fuel consumption, while at the same time enhancing everyday motoring enjoyment. Thanks to these innovations, Renault's European range should soon reach the 137g/km mark and this figure is expected to be less than 120g/km by 2013, before passing beneath the 100g/km threshold by 2016 as the brand's electric vehicle market expands,” the automaker says, regarding the new Energy engines.
European prices start at just €27,350 for the Scenic Expression Energy dCi 130 and go up to €32,450 for the Jade Energy dCi 130 version of the Grand Scenic with seating for seven.
