Renault has released full details and a complete photo gallery (no videos yet, unfortunately) for the new Clio RS 200 EDC. Hidden behind that mass of letters and numbers is the coolest hot hatch in the supermini segment money can buy.
The new Clio RS is a clear and international departure from the old model. It has five doors instead of three, with the rear ones being hidden like on Alfas. The engine is turbocharged and the gearbox is automatic. It even has launch control, making it the ideal pocket rocket you've always dreaming of.

Right, first let's talk about the basics. The Clio RS now has a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine that produces 200 HP (197bhp) at 6,000 rpm and 240 Nm (up 25 Nm from Clio III RS) from just 1,750 to 5,600 rpm. All those euros spent in F1 payed off, as the engine has oodies like DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) cam followers developed from race cars. Instead of a standard manual, the car comes only with Renault’s EDC (Efficient Double Clutch) dual clutch, six-speed transmission, which can be both docile and savage.

Thanks to this powerful new engine and the slick new six-speed dual-clutch gearbox's steering wheel pad els, the Clio RS will go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds, while top speed is 230 km/h or 143 mph. For comparison's sake, the old Clio did 6.9 seconds and 225 km/h.

But that's not the amazing part! Renault has always delivered when it came to the sport stuff. What makes this a special hot hatch is the fuel consumption: 6.3 l/100km combined, 5.1 l/100km highway and 8.1 l/100km in the city. That's not as good as a VW Polo GTI (7.5 l/100km city), but it's still a huge improvement of about 2 liters on average compared to the old car.

The new Clio RS will go on sale in March starting with the domestic French market, where it's priced from just under €25,000. However, we've heard that people are already placing orders and the first two weeks' production quota has been sold.
