Last month, we showed you the R version of the new Golf VII being driven during low temperature testing, but the vehicle seen there wasn’t the production model, which means that, among other, it didn’t come with all the visual drama.
We are now bringing the new Golf R under the spotlights in order to give you a rendering of the vehicle. The styling of the hot hatch will be just as conservative as the one of the current generation R model, but you will receive a few hints about the HP hiding under the hood, such as the revised fascias.
Speaking of horsepower, the Volkswagen Golf VII R is expected to deliver 290 hp from a tweaked 2.0-liter turbochaged four-cylinder and keep the DSG double-clutch gearbox and the 4Motion all-wheel drive.
The 20 hp bump compared to the current model may not seem like much, but we have to consider that the new MQB platform of the Golf VII bring weight savings, so the performance increase will be noticeable.
As for the pricing of the compact performer, the vehicle is expected to start at €38,000 in Europe.
