Starting Friday, August 2, the Schloss Dyck castle in the Lower Rhine region of Germany will become the gathering place for tens of thousands of motoring enthusiasts. The open-air auto show has been for more than a decade the place to be for the auto wonders of years past, and this edition will be no exception.
For this weekend’s event, Volkswagen has prepared a lineup of five exciting and unique vehicles, spanning back in time for about six decades. Leading the pack is the Volkswagen W12 Nardo, a car with quite a number of records to its name.
Introduced to the world in 2001, the car managed to break ten world records at the Nardo Ring track and still is the holder of a 24-hour record, set in 2002 with an average speed of 322.89 kph (200 mph).
Accompanying it is the 1969 VW-Porsche 914/4, a two-seater sports car with a mid-engine that captivated the imagination of a generation back in the early 1970s.
Three different Beetles will be on-site as well, paying tribute to the memory of a nameplate that has been around for more than 80 years.
A 1972 Beetle 1302 S World Champion edition is the star of the lineup, accompanied by a viper-green Apal Buggy built by a Belgian company on a shortened 1972 Beetle platform, and the Ovali Beetle that just saw action in this year’s Mille Miglia race.
To bring a taste of what’s to come from the minds in Wolfsburg, Volkswagen will also be showing its most recent record-breaking creation, the ID. R. The car will not be on site as a static display only, but will also take to the track during the event’s races.
And, for desert, "the Volkswagen Classic ice cream van. Delicious ice cream from a lovingly designed ‚Bulli‘ - snacks don't get any sweeter than this."
