Buick, a General Motors brand since 1908 (it actually helped establish GM), is one of the oldest automobile brands worldwide, and it is the oldest American marque that is still active today. As such, it is no wonder that it has a major cult following - even though some of its glory days are behind it.
More precisely, in America, it gave up on passenger cars entirely and now only sells four crossover SUV nameplates - Envista, Encore GX, Envision, and Enclave. Obviously, that's not exactly what traditional fans are rooting for. The most loyal ones don't abandon the brand, either; they just think of clever ways to make the company go back to its roots - even if only virtually.

For example, Jim, the virtual artist known as jlord8 on social media, loves messing around with all things CGI from General Motors, both old and new - or even in between: a "nice Monte Carlo" SS G-Body Buick Regal Turbo, an 'Astro Overland' based on a Chevy Colorado ZR2 with SUV looks and rear sliding doors (!), or a Buick 3800 pickup truck, among many others.

However, since he owns a 1986 Buick Regal T-type and a 2001 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning, it's only natural that he has a soft spot for the former, too. As such, just recently, he started pretending that Buick didn't abandon passenger cars in general and sedans in particular, so he dropped in his 'imagination land' an Envision CUV turned into a Buick Regal GS fastback sedan.

The transformation, as far as we can see from the quick video, was fast and 'painless' for the Envision – the ride height was dropped to sedan levels, the lower part of the bumper was cut in half, and now there's just one massive air intake at the front that also serves as the car's radiator grille, the wheels are much larger, and the brakes behind them are equipped with red calipers. At the same time, the side profile was altered to sport a straight beltline and a sloping roof toward the rear.

Obviously, there are many GM enthusiasts who share his sadness that the company's corner office head honchos have mostly abandoned passenger cars in general and sedans in particular. They would love to see this design put into practice in the real world. They think it's better than "the flood of crossovers and baby SUVs" and that this fastback sedan with a twin-turbo V6 under the hood would be a greatly popular model for Buick.

Unfortunately, it's merely wishful thinking, and we're 'stuck' with the 2024 Buick Envision, which is coming to market refreshed later this year during the summer with fresh styling, an upgraded interior with a new 30-inch display, additional standard equipment – and all for a starting MSRP of $37,295.
