It was a sad day recently for supercar lovers and one particular owner of the McLaren 765LT as their British exotic machine caught fire. The flames started in the engine bay, and by the time they were put out, the supercar was partially destroyed.
Uploaded by the Courtland Fire Department on Facebook, the images show the significant damages left by the fire. By the time it was put out, the entire back end of the supercar was left completely unrecognized. And considering that the engine lies there, it is likely a write-off.

From what we can tell, the incident was recorded at the end of July, in Rockford, Michigan, so chances are the blue-blooded vehicle now sits in a junkyard somewhere. There are still a few things that can be saved, like the entire front end, doors, windshield, side skirts, front wheels complete with the suspension and brakes, and most of the interior. Other than that, the automotive world just lost one rare machine, as only 765 copies of this model were made.

Depending on the mileage and overall condition, the McLaren 765LT Spider is valued at roughly half a million dollars. It broke cover a little over three years ago as the successor to the 675LT, with track-focused performance and the famous longtail design. It was based on the 720S, which was recently replaced by the 750S, a comprehensive mid-cycle refresh take on the model that was in production from 2017 to 2023, and it came to life at the same facility in Woking, England.

Featuring a retractable electric hardtop, the McLaren 765LT Spider features a very aggressive design. The engine is the same one used in its more mainstream sibling, the 720S Spider, and it is a 4.0-liter V8 with twin turbocharging. However, the output was increased from 720 to 765 ps (710-754 hp/530-563 kW), and it boasts 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque, or 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) more. The extra oomph has made it one-tenth of a second quicker to 100 kph (mph), with the sprint taking 2.8 seconds. The 0-200 kph (0-124 mph) acceleration has improved to 7.0 from 7.9 seconds, and curiously, it has a lower top speed of 330 kph (205 kph) instead of the 720S Spider's 341 kph or 212 mph.

Several power boosts are available from various tuners. Novitec, for one, can give it 855 ps (843 hp/629 kW) to play with and 898 Nm (662 lb-ft) of torque. Their tuned proposal takes only 2.5 seconds for the sprint, and the top speed has slightly increased over the stock one. Additional upgrades can also be found on their shelves, like the new exhaust system, sport springs, wheels, and carbon fiber exterior add-ons for more street credit.
