Rare 2022 Ford Mustang Shelby Super Snake Speedster Is Half Autobot, Half Collectible

Back when the sixth-generation Mustang was still in production, Shelby American came up with this little nugget dubbed the Super Snake Speedster, which not only looks different from “convertible standpoint”, but also packs several mechanical and performance-enhancing mods you can write home about.

For one, the engine is no longer producing its standard amount of horsepower, but more – we'll get into that in just a sec. What’s equally impressive though is the fact that you also get stronger half shafts in this Speedster edition Mustang, to go with the modded engine, aftermarket exhaust, new alloy wheels, and a four-piece tonneau cover which you’ll have to remove in order to put the top up.

Now, we just happened to stumble upon this gorgeous Oxford White example, with the Azure Blue vinyl over-the-top stripes and matching door graphics. It’s getting auctioned off to the highest bidder, and it’s the 77th Speedster produced, out of a total of 98. In other words, it’s quite rare.

When this thing was new, it retailed for $151,265, which includes the Mustang GT on which it is based, plus the Shelby Super Snake Package ($87,990). Oh, and it’s got just 78 miles on the clock. Can you say future collectible? Bank on it.

Aside from the previously mentioned visuals, other highlights include the Super Snake-specific dual intake ram air hood, custom front splitter, wider front fenders, revised fascias and rocker panels, the carbon fiber mirror covers, custom rear spoiler, Shelby-branded taillight panel, and the 20-inch wheels with 305/30 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S rubber.

Inside, you get heated, cooled and power-adjustable black leather front bucket seats with Super Snake backrest embroidery, a heated steering wheel, custom door sill plates and mats, engine-turned dashboard trim, plus amenities such as adaptive cruise control, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, and a dashboard plaque that reads the individual Shelby American CSM number.

As for performance, you’ve still got your 5.0-liter Coyote V8 underneath the hood, just as you’d find in any good old S550 Mustang GT. However, this power unit’s been fitted with a Whipple supercharger, the Shelby Extreme Cooling system, a performance intake, billet throttle body, high-performance fuel injectors, and the Shelby-tuned Borla exhaust system.

At 825 horsepower, this thing is more powerful than your run-of-the-mill Shelby GT500, and to make matters even more fun, everything gets channeled to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. Of course, while this is undoubtedly a terrific driver’s car, its next owner would be wise to just store it or showcase it somewhere, because you never know how much it’ll be worth in just a few decades from now.
