Ram Trucks Commercial: Take It

The Chrysler Group recently published its latest Ram Trucks commercial. It's exciting, action-packed, but ultimately emphasizes on the range-topping 5.7-liter HEMI V8-powered Ram 1500.
With 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft (555 Nm) of torque on tap, this engine is marketed by Ram Trucks as the best of both worlds, offering a good balance of performance and fuel efficiency.

However, a very fine print at the eight-second mark tells the viewer that the EPA estimate is achievable only by the 4x2 model, equipped with the TorqueFlight eight-speed automatic transmission.

This beggars the question: if you have the necessary amount of green Washington bills to buy the most powerful Ram 1500 available, why bother with the two-wheel drive model? About $2,900 separates the 2WD from the four-wheel drive Reg Cab 120.5-inch Sport.

Towards the end of the commercial, the narrator tells the viewer: "How far you take it is entirely up to you." If you're a farmer that needs to go places not accessible to ordinary two-wheel drive vehicles like green lanes, then you should be ready to discard a few miles per gallon in favor of increased off-road capability. Just our two cents.

Finally, what's the deal with the motorcyclists? They don't do anything relevant during the whole length of the commercial except for riding in the blind spot of the pickup truck driver from time to time.

If you're curious about the song playing in the background, we can tell you that it's a 2011 tune called "Come With Me Now" from South African alternative rock band Kongos.
